No, my friends. You have not stumbled across a perverted blog. Vinyl Love is the name of my animated short film currently in development. Vinyl Love tells the tale of Fauna and Sam, two inflatable pool toys who unwillingly become stranded in the ocean after a hurricane. With the help of Pete the Pelican and Ducky, the pool thermometer, they try to find Sam the Swan. Vinyl Love is a family friendly film packed with enough humor to keep mom and dad laughing as well.
I came up with the premise and tagline for Vinyl Love while watching my eleven-year-old daughter and her friends playing out back with our giant pool inflatables. I had purchased a large white swan and pink flamingo. These giant toys quickly became a pool time favorite. It was right about that time when Hurricane Matthew blew up the coast of Florida. My daughter was frantically worried about her pool floats. "They will blow away!" she said emphatically. "They will blow over the dunes into the ocean and be gone forever!" That was all it took for my story concept to take shape.
I had originally intended Fauna and Sam's story to serve as a short. Being a huge fan of Disney Pixar, I could see my short film as the opening act for one of the studio's animated features. The deeper I immersed myself into my story, the more I became intimately attached to my inflatable characters. I began thinking of other short adventures my pool crew could go on. As I sit here typing, the possibilities race through my mind. For now, Vinyl Love will go forth as an animated short film. I hope it will be festival bound in the next year. Until then, keep on writing!
Best,
